National Napping Day

Today is National Napping Day.

I did know this. We've talked about napping here before. We're big supporters of the sport. That's why it's a little disappointing that it has escaped my knowledge until now. I can't really blame myself for anything so I tried to figure out who's fault it is and it's the retailers' fault.

Jan- Feb is Football
Feb-March is Valentines and Easter
Then Summer takes over
And, after Halloween the rest of the year gets Christmas

Retailers are always whining for a new event in store. Especially in the Feb - Mar time frame. I don't know if it's pressure from the Creme Egg folks but they always bow to Easter far too early. Had they just embraced National Napping Day, I would not feel so ignorant now.

But it's not too late.

Retailers, next year I want to see the heart come down and the hammocks go up. I want large displays built around cold beer and wide brimmed hats. I want comfy pillows everywhere and goofy do-not-disturb alarms for sale at check out.

I realize that an alarm that sounds when someone is about to disturb your nap defeats the purpose. So, you'll need to work with the pepper spray people to come up with something more offensive and less nap disturbing before next year.

Make it happen, retailers. This is what you do best. Find a need and fill it. This time of year, right after we've sprung forward, I need less pastel colored faux grass to fill baskets and more hammocks for my ass to fill.

Next year, let's do National Napping Day right.

  1. Nap...good

    Nap in a hammock...priceless

Well except for the price of the hammock.

  2. I am so glad to hear that I inadvertently honored this great national day, but would like to complain that it is not yet designated a national HOLIDAY. For how can anyone truly keep the faith when they have to work and at most workplaces napping is disallowed.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Ben.
